Women's Reservation Bill

Women's Reservation Bill

Why people getting so worried that only elite class woman will be voted to power if the women’s reservation bill gets implemented?
...99% of the men who are currently in power are in so called “elite class”. First, ask this folks who oppose reservation to pick at least 5 politicians who are not corrupt and not in the “elite class”. Why taking only the example of Rabri Devi, how many of our male politicians are educated? What all foolish and embarrassing stunts our male politicians make everyday? Why no one is there to comment all those actions as something connected to gender?

Women in all arenas should realize this attitude as an insult and decide not to vote till this bill gets passed or to vote only for women irrespective to the political parties.

I will never consider woman as weak. But our society has built a culture that control and limits the potential of women in the name of values and customs. This should change. The slowly progressing women empowerment activities won’t make much difference in the attitude of men towards women. For that, women should be a part of ruling system. In our present day context, it will never be materialized without a strong “push”. And this bill will act as a trigger for women to participate and force men to make women participate in governmental affairs.

The bill for increasing the salary hikes for MLA’s were passed without a question and why this one taking so long? Are the male politicians getting scared to share the power?

Women should not vote till the bill gets passed. If men want the power, let them have it .If they think, women are not capable why they need our vote. Let men vote and rule. We should show our support towards the bill by not participating in election till we get the bill passed. Don’t let it be another political drama by the politicians to get vote for the next election!

If you dont consider women as weak, then whats the need for a reservation first of all? Why dont we consider people as politicians only instead of male politicians and female politicians. There is no proven linear relationship between the representation of women in parliament and their emancipation.

There are no provisions to prevent discrimination against men because of finding women who are inclined towards women’s issues alone, or, in other words, biased against men. Women always tells that they are par to men and can outstrip them in every aspects. Then tell me, whats the need of the reservation here. By asking for the reservation, actually they are agreeing to the fact that they are weak and they need some considerations like handicapped people, minority class, backward class and all.........

According to a National Election Study, 68 per cent of today's women MPs are crorepatis. I am not telling that men are better and i have added this as you had mentioned about Rabri....

But why dont we think differently here? All we need in the end is a good and corruption free government. For that there should be a change in the way our constitution works. SO its not good to mix up politics and women rights. I am sure that there is nothing going to change here even if this bill gets passed in Lok Sabha. But you will see a change that majority of reserved female seats will be taken up by wives and daughters acting as proxies for established male leaders. So instead of giving a reservation blindly to women, it will be better if the bill decide which type of women should get the reservation .

A candidate in an election is to be judged by the power and content of his ideas, its practicality, his record of implementing them and by his character. It should not be the sex which determines our government.

Of course Hari ,I agree with what you said but do you think our system will change in this way?It won 't happen..not in the near future..

What I meant is simple..Why all this outcry just because of women reservation bill?Men are enjoying the same benefits (or more)for the past so many decades just coz of our so called culture and social norms..I am not saying these women bureaucrats will make a big change but still they too deserve a chance ... we are in a society where male domination is accepted as a social norm..Here, women do need support and consideration to regain her real value and strength...That's a fact..We should accept it.
When I speak, don't think of your colleagues or classmates, am not pointing the crowd where women enjoys equal eduction and freedom..but there is still a very big group who suffers silently..who curse there life in tears just coz they are women..That should change..This bill may sound nothing for them ..still ..All these years we were following these equal way of choosing power holders and what change it brought??..Nothing..So its high time we try something new...Nothing to loose, anyway our system is corrupted...but if it turns out to be good..It do matter...Its just the question of accepting a change..
Questioning a change is acceptable but denying it simply because of an Utopian idea of perfect democratic government (which never materialized in the past 60 years)is something which we should learn to change.

You are agreeing to a fact which i had already agreed!!!!!! We know that this is not going to bring a change to our constituition. Then whats the use of a try? If we do a trial by giving the reservation and some time in future if things are not working as expected, then there is no turning back and no one would be able to cancel this bill. We all knows abt many reservations which ended up like this. Just take the case of caste reservation where people take advantage to develop backward castes people but, they are suppressing the developed class called as Other castes in the Indian constitution which will inturn change the developed to under developed. And because of the plenty of reservations the people in india are divided to many classifications. So are we going to create one more major classification here? Are we going to take one more risk which we took in much of the reservations ( and failed ) ? We should not forget the fact that it is the reason for India to be still a DEVELOPING COUNTRY for many many years .............

Already politics dont have that much colour in india and no one would like to have a career in that. From my point of view this is the main reason for having this much problem here. Youngsters dont come into it as they have much better oppurtunities. SO in order to avoid that we should take proper measures to make youth generation ( without a discrimination as men or women ) to come up and join hands with the old and experienced leaders. But with this bill we are just making this much more colourless......

And i dont know who was my classmate or colleague which i mentioned last time (Rabri ? ). Also i agree to the point which you said that there is still a very big group who suffers silently. And i am sure that almost 90% of the people in that group would have never even heard about this bill. Giving some reservation to women simply wont let them to come in legislative decision-making. There are parties which decides who should come what they should do.

You have mentioned about an outcry that men are making against the bill. But we are not asking to remove some common rights for women. We are just demanding the existance and continuity of equality in India, which proclaims that all are equal . As a country, India already had and having the perils of reservations and i remember one day when we all actively took part in a debate against "Minority class reservation".

From my last pot you have just skipped some lines which i am attaching here once again..... Do you have any comments on this?

It is easy to say everything..Will you go and join politics leaving behind your education and career? Then what right each of us have to say that no younsters are participaiting nor intrested in politics..Never think about it as a easy solution bcoz it is not something that is quick to happen..All the young faces now in Indian politics are purely "family choices" rather than selected based on proven ability or skills.Do you really think it will change?.It is our dream that it should change and India should develop as a country with equal opportunity to all.
Practicality of this issue is so deep and dense that it will remain as a dream only.
Most of the politicains oppose this women reservation bill only because they will have problem in dividing the seats in election among the current corrupted power holders as they will be forced to introduce new people into the system.
That is a change.
We should n't try to visualize everything with a critical eye.We should be open to change.
Let me quote your words"We(men) are just demanding the existance and continuity of equality in India, which proclaims that all are equal"

Equality in India is just a proclamation not anything that exist in the real sense.Women who are educated/working or from the upper class might be enjoying that equality to a certain extent but can we generalize that?
Present system is useless(That you also agreed),then what is wrong in trying a change..

Once more, let me quote from you "By asking for the reservation, actually they(women) are agreeing to the fact that they are weak and they need some considerations like handicapped people, minority class, backward class and all.........
In the above statement why you compared minority/backward class with handicapped people?????
Why they need reservation?
They are physically/emotionally strong and equal to others and why there is reservation???

Answer is simple, its our society that made that drift..that made many handicapped, not physically but socially...not in one or two years but through decades and centuries...
It created a social system and culture that supported the idea of class/creed/gender discrimination..
Generation after generation followed this concepts as culture and thus created an attitude supporting this system of inequality.

We should be able to get out of this attitude first. Then only we could accept change. For winning a debate we can say anything but the point is, what result it makes in a system where many suffers for no reason of their own...Atleast our discussions should make us change our attitude and be open to others..
